Five killed, 8 injured in two separate car accidents in north Bengal

Siliguri: Five people were killed, of them a mother and her three-and-half-year-old son, and eight others were injured seriously in two separate car accidents in north Bengal, police said today.

Aparna Saha (27), her son Soumyadip Saha and driver Kamalesh Dutta (21) died on the spot and four other occupants in Alto critically wounded when the vehicle hit an iron railings of Torsha bridge at Bansdawa under Pundibari police station in Cooch Behar.

The mishap happened early today at around 0230 hours when all seven occupants were returning home at Setaihat in Mathabhanga after attending a marriage ceremony at Kasmakhaguri in Alipurduar district.

The four injured have been admitted to MJM Hospital.

In another mishap two people were killed and four others were injured when a Maruti van in which they were travelling on was hit by a goods laden truck at Jalangi in Murshidabad district. (UNI)
