Modi condoles of former Navy chief Admiral Nadkarni’s demise

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the death of former Navy chief, Admiral J G Nadkarni.

A war hero of Goa Liberation and Indo-Pak war, Admiral Nadkarni, 86, breathed his last in Mumbai on Monday.

“Anguished by the demise of former Indian Navy chief, Admiral JG Nadkarni. He served the nation

with utmost diligence and was passionate about maritime history. My thoughts are with his family and friends,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

The 14th Navy chief died at the INHS Asvini naval hospital in Colaba area, a Defence spokesperson said.

Admiral Nadkarni, also honoured with PVSM and AVSM was the Chief of the Naval Staff from December

1, 1987 to November 30, 1990.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also expressed condolences on the passing away of Admiral Nadkarni.

“He participated in the Liberation of Goa and played a stellar role in the India-Pakistan War 1965 and in 1971,” she tweeted. UNI
