Assam rifles convoy ambushed in Nagaland, 1 hurt

Kohima: A convoy of the 7 Assam Rifles was ambushed, while on its way from Kiphire to Meluri in Phek district yesterday near the Meluri at Phek and Kiphire districts boundary at around 1:15 PM, when two suspected IEDs exploded as the convoy was nearing the Tizu River.

According to an official report from the district administration informed reports reaching said that the first blast occurred near a bridge above Tizu River and the other occurred some 100 meters away from the first.

One jawan was reported to have sustained splinter injuries in the blasts. He was airlifted to Dimapur for medical aid.

Meanwhile, the NSCN-K claimed that the attack was carried out by its cadres. Col. (Rtd) Isak Sumi, Deputy Kilonser (minister) of Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), in a message stated that “Naga Army led by UNLFW was demonstrating to trainees how to set up IED to ambush on Indian Security Forces” near Akhegwo village under Meluri sub-division in Phek district in the afternoon yesterday.
