Srinagar: Ahead of strike call by the Joint Resistance Leadership, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq put under house arrest at his Nigeen residence on Thursday.

Spokesperson said the detention comes in view of the strike call issued by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

The call was given against the killing of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari and civilians.

A police party arrived at Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence late night and put him under house confinement, he said.

He added that the amalgam leader Engineer Hilal Ahmad War has also been placed under house arrest on Thursday.
