Authorities on Saturday imposed curfew in 14 localities in Shillong after the clashes between the Khasi boy and a Punjabi women on Friday, Indian Express reported.
“The violent clashes were continued till late evening. Meanwhile clashes were going on in an area near the city’s commercial hub.
Reports said that the authorities are trying their level best to calm down the protestors, following the clashes at least ten people have arrested including an accused who was involved in the beating up of a minor boy which led to the violence.
“Mobile Internet and SMS services were suspended in the city as authorities’ battled mobs to bring the situation under control,” reports said.
Reports said that the higher officials of the state are saying that the efforts are being made to bring normalcy in the affected areas.
The area remained tense throughout Friday and the locality saw a large deployment of security forces. Civilian and vehicle movement were restricted.
Violence began in the area in the evening when a mob, which included bus drivers, descended on the locality to target its residents.
The authorities further said that they will consider the situation tomorrow morning and decide whether to lift or relax the curfew.
