Teacher suspended for beating minor student in Ganderbal

A teacher was suspended on Friday for assaulting a minor student at a State-run school in Mamar village of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Chief Education Officer Ganderbal Sheikh Gayas ud din, who visited the school today, said the accused teacher has been placed under suspension. “It seems that the girl student has been ruthlessly beaten by the teacher. I have ordered his suspension,”  Din was quoted as saying to the media.

The action came after the parents of the nine-year-old girl and locals padlocked the school today morning to protest the beating.

Earlier, protesters blocked Srinagar-Leh highway demanding justice over the minor’s beating, and disrupted  the traffic movement for some time.
