Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(JMM) has managed to win the bypolls for Silli and Gomia seats of the Jharkhand Assembly results of which were announced on May 31
In Silli Seema Mahto of the JMM managed to trounce political heavyweight in AJSU supremo and former Deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Kumar Mahto by a margin of 13510 votes.
Seema polled a total of 77129 votes while Sudesh Mahto got 63619 votes. While in Gomia JMM’s Babita Devi defeated her nearest rival Dr Lambodar Mahto of the AJSU party by a slim margin of 1344 votes.
Babita got a total of 60551 votes while Lambodar Mahto polled a total of 59207 while BJP’s Madhav Lal Singh stood at the third position having got 42037 votes.
The by-polls for both the seats were held on May 28.
The voting for these two seats was necessitated as JMM MLA from Gomia Yogendra Prasad Mahto and JMM MLA from Silli Amit Kumar Mahto lost the membership of the house after they were convicted in separate cases by Ramgarh and Ranchi court respectively.
In 2014 assembly JMM had won both the seats.
With the victory in both the seats the overall strength of the JMM has reached to 19 in the Jharkhand Assembly.?
