Srinagar: In a bid to ensure hassle-free journey for the travellers, the federal government has scrapped mandatory baggage identification for air travellers at all the airports of Jammu and Kashmir.

The announcement was made by the Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu through his twitter post, saying that the government was committed to make delightful and hassle-free journey for the travellers.

“Furthering our mission of enhancing citizen convenience, we have done away with mandatory baggage identification by passengers at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh airports. We remain committed to making your journey delightful and hassle-free,” Prabhu tweeted.

Earlier, it was mandatory for the passenger to go through the mandatory baggage identification after check-in travelling out of Srinagar, Leh and Jammu airports due to security reasons.

This will cause immense grievances for the air passengers who would often complain and demand such practices should end, particularly at Srinagar airport.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti thanked the Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu for taking such decision, saying that such a decision from the centre will go a long way in lessening the inconvenience and enhancing the travel experience.

She also stated that she would request him to look into airline ticket pricing to J&K to ease the burden for budget travellers.
