Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar doubtful on future of  Congress-JDS Coalition in Karnataka

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader Jagdish  Shettar on Thursday casted doubts on the newly formed JDS- congress coalition saying it will not last long

Talking to UNI  he said that Congress will  never keep quiet and it has a desperate position as its number has  reduced  from 122 legislators to mere 78.  And it might try its best to  grab the absolute power from JDS.

He alleged that the present  arrangement between Congress and JDS has been mere case of opportunism  and done with ulterior motive just to keep away BJP from power though it  emerged as single largest party by winning  104 legislators.

Mr  Shettar said “It has been a marriage of convenience and not with an  intention to rule the State for progress. The action is nothing but  indulging in murder of democracy.”

He said that a party with only  37 legislators can lead the Government has nothing been a mimicry of  democracy and the day when Mr. Kumarswamy assumed power as the Chief  Minister of Karnataka dark day has pervaded the state of democracy.

Recalling  that Mr Devegowda became Prime Minister with only 17 members in his  party, Mr Shettar said that his Government did not last long and doomed a  very short period. Kumarswamy Government also will witness similar  position in the near future, he predicted.

The former Opposition  leader in the Legislative Assembly came down heavily on the Congress for  alleged illegal detention of Congress legislators in hotel and not  allowing them even to contact their kith and kin..”It is nothing but the  height of immorality. These legislators were not even made aware of the  political growth during their stay there and now they will come to know  of the real political status and will soon be disillusioned, “he  observed.

Mr Shettar alleged that the previous Congress  government has pushed the State under heavy debt and it runs into  more  than Rs 2 lakh Crore.  Under such circumstances it would not be possible  for the new Chief Minister to announce waiver of farm loans immediately  and even in the near future.

He demanded Chief Minister  Kumarswamy to announce loan waiver immediately if he has guts now.  During the election campaign JDS had announced that it would waive all  the loans of the farmers as soon as it came to power. But since it has  joined hands with Congress this decision would not be possible, as it  has to take consent of the allies before making any major decision as  Congress has number strength.

Former BJP State President and Lok  Sabha member Prahalad Joshi, in his reaction, expressed his doubts over  the announcement of waiver of farm loans as promised by JDS during its  election campaign. “If the Chief Minister failed to fulfill the promises  made in JDS manifesto, it has to be concluded that JDs had no intention  except to grab power by hook or crook”, he added.
