SRINAGAR: In a series of hard-hitting tweets, former vice president of Students’ Union at Delhi’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Shehla Rashid Shora has accused Delhi Police of “majoritarian complicity” for its failure to come to the rescue of a Kashmiri family in southeast Delhi.

Alluding to video evidence, Shehla Rashid alleged that even a female officer of Delhi Police was “watching the show calmly”.

She described the role played by Delhi Police as “beyond shameful”.

About a dozen residents of a colony in southeast Delhi allegedly thrashed a Kashmiri family comprising three sisters, a brother and a husband on Thursday evening.

A video of the incident which has since gone viral showed angry Delhi residents using hockey sticks and other tools to beat up a Kashmiri family.

In one of her tweets Shehla alleged that at least three Kashmiri women were “molested by a group of men aided by their wives”.

After talking to family members, Shehla told The Kashmir Press on phone that the victim family was “subjected to racial and communal slurs” during the attack.

She further alleged that “the family was clearly attacked and brutally beaten by a huge mob led by RWA members and their wives.”

In a series of tweets she said that “even the person who was making a video is assaulted in the end. She’s slapped and her (mobile) phone hits the ground. ”
