President Kovind visits Siachen, becomes only second president to visit highest battlefield

 

President Kovind Thursday visited Siachen glacier to interact with the soldiers of Indian army at the highest battlefield of the world. He is only second Indian  president after APJ Abdul Kalam to visit the highest battlefield of the world.

According to the northern command, the president interacted with the troops of the forward posts in Siachen.

He was accompanied by the army chief General Bipin Rawat and Lt Gen D Anbu, GOC-in-C, Northern Command. , Kovind undertook an aerial survey of Siachen glacier, the northern command stated.

Later he visited the Siachen base camp where he laid wreath in memory of the soldiers killed on the glacier, the command stated.

He also praised the soldiers deployed in the battlefield assuring them that “the nation remembers their sacrifices,” it added.
